Over the past 28 years, Tom Tuohy has represented more than 14,000 individuals in Illinois and throughout the country.
Respected for his ability and willingness to inform the public of the legal issues effecting their lives, Mr. Tuohy has, additionally, provided legal education seminars to City of Chicago and Chicago Police Department employees for 20 years, to members of major labor unions such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, US Steelworkers, Fraternal Order of Police, Metra, Chicago Transit Authority and Secretary of State of Illinois employees and to residents of communities across the state of Illinois.
From 1984 to 1988, he served as Special Assistant Attorney General of Illinois. Mr. Tuohy founded his own law firm in 1982, now known as Tuohy Law Offices, providing educational seminars and legal services in estate planning, the preservation of personal assets, and financial security. Mr. Tuohy also established the Fraternal Order of Police Legal Benefits Plan and has represented countless numbers of police officers, from rank and file to police superintendent.
The President and Founder of Dreams for Kids, Mr. Tuohy is a board member for Clara's House Shelter, the United West Englewood Organization, the Jesse White Tumbling Team, and Linus Foundation. He was a founding board member of DePaul University's Mentor Advisory Program and Chicago's New Media Council, and has served on the Partnership Board of Avenues to Independence. He is a delegate to KIN Global (Kellogg Innovation Network) and a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
Mr. Tuohy is particularly proud of his involvement and representation of thousands of individuals of Chicago's neighborhoods from the Northside to the Southside. Mr. Tuohy is one a handful of attorneys in the United States to have received the highest (A/V) rating for legal ability and ethical standards as determined by Martindale Hubbell which has provided such ratings for more than 138 years. He has received numerous community awards and recognition as one of Illinois' most respected attorneys.
Chosen as Illinois "Citizen of the Year" in 2000 by the Illinois Crime Commission and as the Emerald Society "Person of Year" in 1989, Mr. Tuohy was recently featured as one of WGN's "Unsung Heroes."
After receiving a Bachelor of Science with Honors from DePaul University in Chicago; Mr. Tuohy studied International Law at the Emanuel College of Cambridge University in England, and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from DePaul Law School. He is a Kellogg School of Northwestern University Executive Scholar and a Stanford University Fellow on Social Innovation.
Mr. Tuohy has been a member of various organizations, notably, the American Trial Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Chicago Crime Commission, and National Speakers Association
